The Family Room

Today I would like to show you my Family Room. It has being evolving thru time, I think I might settle here for a while... will see! ;)
This is how it started,

There is a red chair in the other corner, which is what set the mood for the red palette.

Here it is today,

The ceilings are cathedral which will make it really hard and difficult to paint the walls, I am ok with the color, so I left that alone.
I took the curtains down to make it less formal. There are plantation shutters in the windows so the curtains were more decorative anyway. I am ready to take the shutters down too, but hubby is putting the break on that. sight!
This Christmas we got each other (me & hubby) a new sofa. Our old one was ready to retire. This one is slip covered for, hopefully, an easy maintenance. With three little ones there is definitely plenty of trips to the washer machine in the couch's future.

I love to play with pillows, you see different ones in the couch here.

The coffee table I found at my local Antique Mall and I gave it a makeover. You can see it HERE

The ottoman is a find from a thrift store. I made the cover with a drop cloth.

I love this desk. I found it at an antique show in Rowley, MA. I use it as an accent table next to the sofa. I display my wedding photo, an antique picture of my grandma  and some ironstone. We keep blankets to cozy up in the sofa in the big basket under the desk.

This gorgeous Governor Winthrop desk was a Craigslist find, it replaced a bookcase that moved upstairs to the reading area outside the guest room. You can see the post and makeover about this desk HERE. This is exactly where I'm sitting right now! :)

I love to snuggle with the little munchkins in the sofa and read books. We have this antique crate full of our favorites right by our sofa.

I replace the two oversize pictures above the couch with a collage  of different black and white pictures in gold frames.
They all are very meaningful to me. The picture in the middle is a church in my hometown in Spain, where I used to attend Sunday mass with my family.
The two on the bottom in each side of the middle one are pictures of San Francisco, CA. I live there for 10 years, so they bring great memories to me.
The two little ones on the top of the SF ones are two antique postcards of my current hometown of Plymouth, MA. They were a gift from a friend.
And the antique tray... hmm, I just hang it there because I thought the colors look good together.
I am on the hunt for some fabulous ironstone dishes or platters to complete the collage.

Thank you so much for visiting! Hope you enjoyed my family room!!
XO

  6. Your family room is beautiful! I love your new slipcovered sofa. I also like the changes you made to your room although the "before" pictures were beautiful too. I'm impressed with your sewing skills since you made the ottoman cover yourself. And with dropcloth (a fave of mine)! Thanks so much for sharing it at tonight's party (Share Your Style).

  12. I'm feeling such a positive aura on your family room. I'm betting that it's your favorite place in the house. The ambiance is just so relaxing and cool. I'm sure the whole family spends so much time in there. In any way, I'm looking forward to having a look on other parts of your lovely home. Thanks for sharing that, Cristina! I wish you all the best! :)
