Playing with Hemp Oil

I have being following Miss Mustard Seed blog for a while, I love her style and her blog.
She has her own line of milk paint and products. One of them is Hemp Oil.

I have a couple of wood boards that I purchased at Brimfield Antique Show. The big rectangular one I use to decorate with, but the piggie I use in a daily basis.

They were both pretty tired looking, so I decided to wake them up a bit with a coat of Hemp Oil.

My Little helper in action!

And voila! So easy and the wood boards look so much happier!!

The Boys Room

The boys room is a work in progress, but I feel like I'm getting closer to the final stage. Or at least for now.  Things are always changing around here as my wheels keep spinning with ideas and possibilities!
This is how it was before. I had a red accent wall. I felt it made the room a bit dark, so I decided to paint that wall like the rest of the room.

The rest of the walls are a pretty very light gray color, so I went with that. It's a custom color. I had Benjamin Moore made that for me. If you like it, just ask me and I'll send you the formula!!

I really like the way it turned out. I think it makes the room a lot brighter and lighter. The boys loved it too. So it was a win win!! ;)
You know how it goes, with one change comes another, so I also switched the artwork around a bit and I added a couple things. Such the initials on top of each headboard.

I already had the M, it used to be baby blue and it was originally in Matt's nursery. Then completely unexpected I found the J at Savers. It was pink, but I didn't see a problem with that. Nothing some spray paint couldn't fix. Right?

I also had this gold frame. I used it at Christmas to display our Christmas cards. I Just stapled some twine to the back and hung things with tiny cloth pins from Michaels. For now I hung it in this big wall in their room to display some pictures and some memorabilia as tickets for their first games, etc. I'm not sure I'm really loving it here, but there it is for the time being.

The Next thing I want to do is paint the dresser and the armoire. Hopefully soon!! :)

Thanks so much for visiting. Hope you enjoyed the Boys room history and make over!! :)

The New Old Hutch

Last March I decided to sell my dining room set and redecorate that room.
The furniture and the style of the room was way to formal for my taste and lifestyle now.
I was a lot more formal at a younger age, pre-kids, than now.
I rather to have a more informal look and furnishing. Something I can enjoy with little children without worrying to much about scratches and destroyness. I am also letting my French Country side and love for French Country style come out and shine thru!
I will share my dining room make over another day.
Today I'm going to focus on the Hutch.
After all my formal dining room furniture was gone. I needed a hutch to replace the previous one.
I search craigslist and finally found this one on a Facebook yard sale.

I really liked the style of it. Kind of French Country. Don't you think?
I'm in love with white and my safety color is usually Old White by ASCP. But this time I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and try something else. Another color that I love is Paris Gray by ASCP. So I decided to paint the inside of the hutch Old White and the outside Paris Gray with some touches of Old White.
Then I lightly sanded it to distress it a little bit and applied a coat of clear wax and a coat of dark wax over the clear one.
And here is the result!

I also love the hardware. It's the original that the hutch came with.

Thanks so much for stoping by and reading my hutch makeover. I hope you enjoyed it!
Have a lovely day!! :)

Dresser Makeover

I found this dresser at Savers for $45. I looked at it, and looked at it again, and thought about it and convinced myself that I really didn't need it, so I passed. Yup, I left the store without it. Thank goodness for that voice inside me that started yelling and screaming at me to turn around and go get it. So I did, I listened to the voice in my head, did a 180 and drove back to the store as fast as I could. You have to be very careful at Savers because things come and go at the speed of light, so no time to dilly dally here, if you like something you must dive in, or someone else will!!
So luckily the dresser was still there waiting for me.

This project happened before I introduced myself to chalk paint. So, I lightly sanded, primed and painted with some latex paint I found in my stash leftover from another project. Then I stained, and wiped the stain as I went to achieve the antique look. One of the knobs on one of the top drawers was missing, so initially I replaced both of them with these glass knobs.

It turned out really cute, don't you think? I wasn't sure where it would find a home. I placed it in a lot of different locations around the house, but none were working for it. I considered selling it, but
right around that time we switched the little princess to a big girl room, so it happily lives in Grace's bedroom now.

I ended up changing the knobs to these really cute ones- they are a bunch of mother of pearl flowers grouped all together. I found the knobs at Home Goods. It looks beautiful in her room!!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Hope you enjoyed this makeover!!

Coffee Table

This is my first coffee table. I purchased it right after I got married, almost 15 years ago. It was a great table and despite the glass top it was very durable as it survived three kids monkeying around.  But I grew tired of it; my style changed and I needed something different. So, I sold it on Craigslist and began the hunt...

In the meantime, I needed something to put in its place, and I found this little folding tray table in my storage that I used to use for staging. This was going to be temporary until I found the permanent table.  However, it was this way for about a year. I am very indecisive when it comes to choosing something that will have to stay long term. Sorry, the picture is not very good of the table. I was featuring those pictures to sell and that was the focus of the photo. But you can get the idea here... yup, the couch is gross and no longer lives in this home, a new one is there now.  I'll show you in another post.

I like to visit the antique mall in my town, you never know what you are going to find there,  and it's fun to go once in a while and browse... Surprise, surprise, found this table...

Hmmmm... let me think about it... No, I didn't buy it that day, I told you I'm very indecisive, so I needed to sleep on it and get my wheels going with the possibilities. This is not always a good thing to do, usually I miss out on awesome stuff for this reason, and by the time I go back it's usually gone. But not with this table. This one was still there, waiting for a compassionate soul to help it find Grace again.

So I did, I purchased it for $50, yeah!! Don't you love a bargain? And it is solid wood and so strong and sturdy, which is a must, since this house transforms into a zoo quite often! :)
I couldn't wait to get started-I sanded the top to the bare wood.

and applied three coats of stain (please excuse my messy garage)

Then I painted the base of the table in Old White by ASCP

It looked awesome already, much better than before, don't you think? But I kind of wanted to experiment a bit and do something more to it. I've being hearing about the Dry Brush Painting technique and wanted to check that out. So I Googled it and found a very sweet girl with a video on YouTube- Heidi from "All that Brings Joy." I personally don't know her, but she did a great job explaining this technique in her video. So thank you Heidi for teaching me how to do it!!
The look the dry brush technique is supposed to achieve is kind of driftwood. So, I think it's best to paint your piece of furniture a darker color and then do the dry brush in a lighter color. But since I really wanted the table in white and decided to do it opposite, I chose Paris Gray by ASCP to do the dry brush technique...

All you do is get a tiny bit of paint on the tip of the paint brush and very lightly paint over the surface. You can kind of see it on this leg, before I applied a coat of dark wax.

Lastly, I dark waxed the table legs and apron, and put a coat of clear wax on the top to seal it and protect the wood.

And here it is!!

(oops, please don't mind that pink little pony in the kitchen floor! ;) )

Thanks so much for reading! Hope you enjoyed my coffee table makeover!!
