Easter Decor

It's still so cold in my neck of the woods with more snow on the forecast. Yikes!!

It's really hard to think spring, I feel we are heading tours Christmas instead of Easter.
So sad to think my kids are going to have to do the Easter egg hunt this year in their snow pants and boots!!! Crazy!!

In the bright side it's going to be so easy to spot all the colorful eggs in the white snow!! :)

I cannot believe Easter is on Sunday. I feel Easter is sneaking on me this year so fast!!

I don't do a lot of Easter decor. Just a couple of things on my coffee table and an Easter-y center piece on my breakfast nook table.
In this table is where we have all our meals, so with three monkeys, I mean kids ;) eating at this table, the decor has to be pretty simple and minimal!

 On the coffee table I grouped a few spring-y things such a bunny, some tulips, some chocolate eggs, a candle that smells divine, I love to light it at night after everyone goes to bed and I get to relax for just a few minutes, before I fall sleep on the couch!! some antique glass door knobs and the cutes little bird house painted by my very talented three year old beautiful daughter!

On my breakfast nook table I have an antique tool box filled with candles and decorative Easter eggs. The Eggs act as footballs around the table and all sort of games are played with them daily! They are non breakable, thank goodness!! :)

On Wednesday I went to my local antique mall to browse around. I wasn't looking for anything in particular, those are the days that I score something!! When I look for a specific thing it's so hard to find it, but when I'm not looking for anything in particular, everything comes to me!! :)

This beautiful antique ironstone tray called my name loud and clear. So it came home with me.
I new exactly where I was going to hang it too!!

It has a big crack on the bottom corner and some age stains. But I think that just adds more character to it!

I have a gorgeous old bread board that I found at Brimfield Antique Show last year hanging in a wall in my kitchen. It looked a little lonely and sad.

 I hang the tray on top of it and I think they make a great couple, they look so good together!! Don't you think? :)

I also found this "welcome" sing, I thought it was really cute for Easter and as a little spring touch.

And some antique books!

It's so much fun to come home with a good haul and find homes for the new goodies!!

To end the day Hubby surprised me with this gorgeous red roses bouquet. It was our 15th wedding anniversary. We will be celebrating Saturday night with a nice dinner and some very much needed mommy and daddy alone time!! :)

Affordable Art Work

Summer is my favorite time of the year. I was born in the summer, and I've always being close to the Ocean.  I love seashells and sea life and often use them thru out my home in my decor.

When I redecorated my living room I decided to made my own sea life art work to hang next to the Governor Winthrop desk.

I looked for a couple of frames  in my local thrift store for about $1 each.
I googled "Free vintage seashells prints" and the possibilities were endless!!
I chose my two favorites, print them at home in card stock paper and simply switch the prints the frames came with for the ones I printed.

It was a really easy and very inexpensive project!!

Here is the result!

Dining Room table makeover

While I was at Sue's house working on her desk. You can see all about it HERE. We decided to give her dining room table a makeover.
The top of the table was damage by some water stains and some fork marks.

This is the table before:

We pointed at it with our paint brushes and said: Bippity Boppity Boo!!!
Unfortunately nothing happened, so we got to work!
We sanded the top to the bare wood, and applied a coat of dark wax and a coat of clear wax over the dark one for extra protection.

We painted the apron and legs ASCP Old White and applied a coat of clear wax and a coat of dark wax over the clear one.

I think we got some pretty Bippity Boppity Boo at the end of the process!! Here it is!

Sue is in the hunt for new Linen chairs to complete her dining room. I think the table came out fantastic. What do you think?

Cutie Patootie!

Today is the first day of spring. I hope you are enjoying some fabulous sunshine and blooms where you are. It's in the 20s here and freezing cold. we are expecting more snow tomorrow! Yikes!!

I recently showed you this desk makeover,

My friend Sue was inspired by it to transform a little desk she owns. You can see my desk makeover HERE.  I packed my paint brushes and went to the rescue!!

This is Sue's desk before, sorry they are not very good pics. I took them with my phone.

Sue Chose ASCP Old White for the desk and ASCP Duck's Egg for the chair. (can you see my foot?)

That's me in action! Wearing my fabulous painting outfit!! ;)

Here is the desk and chair all painted and ready for the stencils.

We painted the stencils in Duck Egg. Distressed it with a sand sponge and applied a coat of clear wax.

It turned out so cute, don't you think?

Centenary Pillows

Yesterday I share some homemade pillows I made with tapestries my grandma made, you can see it HERE. Today I would like to show you some more, very special, pillows.
I also brought these ones from Spain. It's really fun to shop at my mom's home!!

These ones are very delicate and very antique, they sit on my bed. They have an HR embroidered on them, those letters are my great grandmother's initials.

This two pillows are over 100 years old! They travelled from La Habana, Cuba, where my great grandma was from in a trunk by boat all the way to Spain. Then later on, they made it to the USA in my suit case!

This one is also a very special one. its about 104 years old, made by hand by my great-grandmother. It used to be my grandfather's pram coverlet. That is why there is no ruffle at the bottom. The bottom is actually the top of the coverlet. I thought it will look great as a pillow. So I just put a pillow insert inside. 

Speaking of antique linens, let me show you this table runner. Also a century old, also made by hand by my great grandmother. 

Gorgeous, isn't it? I hope it makes my great-grandmother happy to know her beautiful work is proudly and happily display four generations later all the way across the ocean!!
