welcome home Governor!!!

A long time ago I saw this picture on someone's Facebook page, I really don't remember the source. But I know I fell in love with it!! How adorable and cute, bright and happy!!!

I needed a place to keep my laptop, and most importantly, to store everyone's devices as they were currently living in a basket on my kitchen counter. Laptops, iPads, and iPhones- it was a mess of plugs and cables, so I thought this Governor Winthrop Secretary Desk would be a perfect and  adorable solution.

So, I got busy and started the hunt. I found one pained in black at the Brimfield Antique Show, but the price tag was completely out of my universe.
So, I kept up the hunt and finally this bad awesome boy crossed my path on Craigslist for $140. SCORE!!! I contacted the seller and sent hubby to pick it up.

I painted the inside in pale blue leftover paint from my bathroom, and the outside in ASCP Old White.  I distressed it and applied a coat of clear wax. I must say the wooden details in the windows were a monster to paint. It was so hard to not get any paint on the glass.  So I placed a thin piece of cardboard between the wood and the glass and moved it as I painted.

Then, I drilled a hole in the back of the furniture at the height of the first drawer to run the iPads, iPhones and laptop cables thru to the electrical outlet behind the secretary. So, the first drawer is my charging station and it only holds devices.

The bonus of it is that all drawers have a lock and it came with three keys, so I can lock the iPads when the little ones are not allowed to use them, just to avoid temptation! LOL
And here is my version!!

It's right next to a window so it gets great light. I love use the desk for different tasks- it makes paying bills a bit more fun! (yeah right!) ;)

XOXO

  3. This looks great! I have an old one I'm planning to paint also. See it here: https://charlieandjo.wordpress.com/2015/03/11/grandmothers-secretary/ . Maybe I'll get to it soon. Yours, though, is charming and styled beautifully. Jo @ Let's Face the Music
